James C. Schwartz is co-leader of Tortorici Schwartz's global transportation practice and an internationally recognized advisor on transportation and infrastructure. During his career, he led and continues to lead evolutionary transactions for some of the largest transportation companies in the industry.
James is particularly skilled in counseling clients on virtually all functions of business, including operations, human resources, marketing and sales, hospitality, loyalty programs, procurement, technology (hardware, content and software licensing, data security, and privacy), and other business-process outsourcing transactions, as well as restructuring matters. His unique and deep understanding of the transportation industry has earned him a well-deserved reputation as a preeminent transportation lawyer and valuable strategic partner.
James is the co-founder of TripMarket, a B2B marketplace platform and mobile application designed to increase profitability for transportation companies by helping source labor and equipment at dynamic rates on either a pre-arranged or on-demand basis, and the co-founder of Total Compliance Solutions, a B2B data platform designed to help for-hire transportation companies avoid fines and suspensions from regulatory agencies by tracking and aggregating driver and vehicle permit and license statuses..
Prior to establishing Tortorici Schwartz LLP, James served as EVP/General Counsel at Sotheby’s International Realty in Los Angeles, responsible for the legal affairs of a real estate brokerage and investment group, and was an associate at a boutique law practice in New York specializing in commercial and real estate litigation.
James began his legal career as an Assistant General Counsel at the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission, where he prosecuted licensees for rule violations and participated in the development of agency policies and procedures.
