James C. Schwartz is co-leader of Tortorici Schwartz’s global transportation practice and an internationally recognized advisor on transportation and infrastructure. He has built a distinguished career counseling some of the largest and most sophisticated companies in the transportation industry, leading complex, high-value, and often transformative transactions across the sector.

His practice spans virtually every major business function, including operations, human resources, marketing and sales, hospitality, loyalty programs, procurement, technology, software and content licensing, data security and privacy, business process outsourcing, and restructuring matters. James is valued not only for his legal judgment, but also for his commercial acumen, industry fluency, and ability to serve as a strategic partner on mission-critical business initiatives. His deep understanding of the transportation industry has earned him a reputation as one of the field’s preeminent legal advisors.

James is also the co-founder of TripMarket, a B2B marketplace platform and mobile application designed to enhance profitability and operational efficiency for transportation companies by enabling the real-time sourcing of independent contractor labor and equipment at dynamic rates, on either a pre-arranged or on-demand basis.

Before co-founding Tortorici Schwartz LLP, James served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Sotheby’s International Realty in Los Angeles, where he had primary responsibility for all legal, transactional, and strategic matters affecting the company's real estate brokerage and investment groups. Earlier in his career, he practiced at a boutique New York law firm focused on commercial and real estate litigation.

James began his legal career as Assistant General Counsel at the New York City Taxi & Limousine Commission, where he prosecuted licensees for regulatory violations and contributed to the development of agency policies and procedures.
